Delayed Dreams

Image
‘ Waiting for Our Academic Journey to BeginπŸŽ“’  I am currently a first-year student at the University of Visual and Performing Arts. In our batch, most students were born in 2004, but there are also students born in 2002, 2003, and 2005. However, the sad situation is that although we completed our G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in 2023–2024 and were selected to the university in the same year, we are still at home. Our academic activities started online in September 2025, but even by February 2026, we are still not attending to physical lectures.            We were supposed to start physical lectures on the 23rd of March 2026, but due to a global issue, it was postponed again. As students, we truly wish to start our academic journey on time, complete our degree within the proper period, and move forward with our own careers and lives. We understand that even our university and lecturers are facing difficulties, and that this delay has been continuin...

Saving Electricity for a Better Sri Lanka

Image
Electricity is a valuable and limited resource in Sri Lanka . With increasing demand and energy costs, it is very important to use electricity wisely and avoid unnecessary wastage. Saving electricity not only reduces bills but also helps protect the environment.                         Many people waste electricity without realizing it. Leaving lights, fans, and appliances switched on when not in use is a major reason. Using old and inefficient electrical devices and overusing air conditioners also lead to high energy consumption. There are many easy ways to reduce electricity wastage. We can switch off lights and appliances when not needed, use energy-efficient bulbs like LED lights, and unplug devices when they are not in use. Making use of natural light and ventilation during the day can also help save energy. Saving electricity helps reduce the burden on the national power system and lowers the need for fuel. It also helps...

My Buddy

Image
‘ My Buddy ’  My buddy’s name is Irosha Dinujaya Wickramapala, but I just call him Iro. I’ve known him for about three years, and in that time, we’ve become super close more like brothers than friends. Sometimes he is little crazy, and when he gets irritated, But I quickly calm him down. We’re always chilling together, just relaxing and having fun. We first met at university, and since then, we’ve been inseparable. We chill together all the time, dance to new tracks, and create creative traditional-based choreographies.  When we’re at my house, we are cycling, we often go to Holy cross church for a short visit. sometimes late at night also. Mostly we go to Marawila beach and have fun every  afternoons. We enjoy traveling together too. So far, we’ve visited Madu Church, Thalawila St. Anne’s, Dehiwala Zoo, Galle Fort, Koneshwaram in Trincomalee, the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, and sometimes just a quick trip to Colombo One Galle Face. We’re always listening to mus...

The role of English Teachers

Image
' The Special Role of English Teachers '   English teachers have a special role in education. Unlike other subjects, English can be difficult for many students, especially when it comes to grammar, writing, and speaking. English teachers guide students patiently, helping them understand and use the language confidently.     English teachers do more than teach rules. They help students express their thoughts clearly and improve their reading, listening, and communication skills. For many students, this subject feels challenging, so the teacher’s support is very important and valuable. English teachers also build confidence. Through speaking exercises, writing tasks, and discussions, students learn skills that are useful both in exams and in everyday life. While every teacher is important in their own subject, English teachers stand out because they help students communicate, think creatively, and express themselves.

One of the challenges that I succeeded

I am a male dancer and currently a first-year university student in University of Visual and Performing Arts. I want to share a small story about my journey in school dance. During my final year of school, I noticed something unusual our school, founded in 1873, had been performing traditional dances for over a hundred years, but only girls performed certain items. Even though our school was mixed, girls usually performed at every items, occassions. So on that period when I'm going school I was the only boy who performed on the stage.                                    After finishing my A/Ls, I decided to teach and train boys who were interested in dance. I started with just two boys, practicing after school and on Friday evenings. Over time, the group grew, and today, there are around ten boys performing on stage in any school occassion.  Looking back, I feel proud and emotional. This ...
